Eastern Michigan University Strong Hall Renovation & Addition

The Strong Hall renovation and addition project includes updating of the entire existing structure including; classrooms, lecture halls, student common areas, and faculty offices. The renovation includes substantial “green” improvements to reduce long-term energy costs. The project includes:

• Reconfiguration of existing space to modernize classroom and lab spaces with new technology and flexible use spaces for both research and instruction.
• Replacement of the fire suppression system.
• Replacement of the existing HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems to improve energy efficiency and help reduce existing operating costs.
• Addition of a mechanical penthouse to the roof.

The modernized and reconfigured space provides students with much needed gathering space for impromptu meetings with faculty and other classmates. The update brings the building up to the standards of STEM programs and the needs of 21st century students. These improvements will also provide flexibility in classroom configuration to adapt to the changing instructional environment. All renovations are designed to meet LEED Silver Criteria.
